Hospital CVICU Relocation

DGA’s Role: Construction Manager
Completion: 2019

The University of Rochester Strong Hospital’s Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit provides critical care to both burn victims and patients with complex cardiovascular surgical and medical issues. Each year, the CVICU staff provides specialized care for about 1,000 patients. The department required a renovation of facilities to continue it’s nationally award-winning care.

The 40,000+ SF interior renovation also included the replacement of 2,100 SF of exterior aluminum curtain-wall and finish upgrades to 5,000 SF of the main Fourth Floor corridor leading to the CVICU entrance. The project had an aggressive schedule that included a one-month acceleration effort. The work included replacement of HVAC distribution systems and the construction of four new ICU rooms.

DGA built a 250 SF exterior scaffold gangplank with hoist way above adjacent roof areas. This allowed the team to remove demo debris and bring in new duct work across the roof and avoid traffic through occupied areas of the hospital. Both floors received new flooring and other finishes.
